Round Rock ISD will once again implement a four-day summer work schedule for employees on duty during the summer months. The four-day schedule will begin the week of June 5 and continue through July 28, with official business hours of Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The District will be closed on Fridays during those weeks.
Employee work schedules during this period will be based on the assigned service calendar of the employee’s position. Employees will work Monday through Thursday, with each day accounting for ten hours of work rather than the usual eight. Working ten hours for four days will allow employees to meet the forty-hour threshold for the respective week.
Examples of ten-hour work schedules may include the following:
· 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a 1-hour lunch break
· 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break
· 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break
Any variations from these work schedules should be discussed with and approved by the employee’s supervisor. Supervisors should ensure that business operations remain supported when approving any scheduling variation requests.
Please note that there are some exceptions to the four-day, ten-hour-per-day work week. During certain weeks, employees should work the typically scheduled hours on the duty days identified on their service calendars. Additionally, the District will be closed on July 4 in observance of the July 4 holiday. All employees scheduled to work should work their regular eight-hour day during that week. During the summer months, non-exempt employees would continue to receive overtime pay only for physical hours worked over 40 per week.
Employees absent from work for personal or sick leave during a four-day workweek should report ten hours for each absence rather than the typical eight hours.
Employees working summer school follow the Summer Learning schedule.
Supervisors should review employee work calendars with their staff to ensure employees understand their summer work schedule.
Review the District service calendar
The District is closed from June 23 to July 7. Closing for two weeks helps Round Rock ISD reduce energy costs and provide more efficient operations, rather than having a “skeleton” crew of employees due to vacations typically taken during these weeks. Please note that some employees may be scheduled to work during the weeks of June 23 – July 7.
Please note: Employees assigned to the 260-day calendar are scheduled to work during these weeks and should work with their department supervisors for any alterations to their work schedule for this time period.
Business casual dress will be allowed beginning June 5 through July 28. Clothing should be comfortable but suitable for the workplace (no short shorts, tank tops, etc.). Maintenance personnel should comply with the dress requirements in the Maintenance Handbook (no shorts allowed).
Please contact the Payroll department for any questions regarding the summer work schedule. We hope you enjoy the long weekends and summer break with family and friends and the casual dress practices this summer. Thank you for your dedicated service to Round Rock ISD.
