Melissa Vasquez is one of the Coordinators for Gifted and Advanced Academic Services.
In her role, Melissa works primarily with elementary groups including ETAGS, cluster teachers, PYP coordinators, and elementary AVID. She coordinates elementary gifted identification and services, elementary examination for acceleration, and elementary program compliance monitoring. She also maintains the Gifted Program manual and coordinates gifted and talented elementary summer programming and testing.
Melissa started working in the District 12 years ago as a long term substitute teacher after graduating from the University of Texas, Austin. She was then hired for a full time position at Union Hill Elementary as a 4th grade teacher. After five years in the classroom she became the school’s Elementary TAG Specialist.
Her relationships with her peers prompted her to join them in opening the newest Round Rock ISD campus, Redbud Elementary, as the Elementary TAG Specialist. “I’m grateful to Round Rock ISD for all the opportunities that I’ve been a part of.”
When she’s not at work, Melissa likes heading to Austin FC football games, supporting her UT Longhorns, and spending time with family and friends.
One of Melissa’s favorite memories was when she went to Santorini, Greece with her younger sister. They stayed in one of the white houses with the blue tops that you see in the pictures. Her memory of roaming the cobblestone streets with her sister always brings a smile to her face. She will never forget their adventure!
