November recognizes National Diabetes Awareness Month. This month diabetes related-health care organizations educate and promote awareness of a disease that affects about 37 million Americans, including adults and youth.
The official symbol of the month-long recognition is the blue circle. The circle represents unity, and the blue serves as the color of the sky. Together, they “Unite for Diabetes.”
There is no cure for diabetes. Individuals with the disease or who may be at risk must manage it daily.
Employees enrolled in the District’s benefits plan who are living with type II or type II have access to the Livongo for Diabetes Program, provided through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.
